Will I be charged any additional fees, charges or taxes other than those you quote on your website?
Absolutely not! Your total cost is exactly what we quote on our website, not a penny more.
Why are your fees so low?
It's really quite simple: although we don't skimp on the essentials like real-time registration of your domain name; secure credit card processing; and personal customer support; we do run a lean operation and we're satisfied with a reasonable profit. Our overhead is low - we don't have fancy offices and we don't run costly advertising programs. Nor do we spend money on frills like toll free phones, which always seem to be abused.
So if you're looking for low cost, quality domain name registration services... easy, fast, secure, dependable, and backed by personal support... you've found the right place. Thanks to value-conscious customers like you, we'll be around for a long time to come.
Who owns the domain names I register with you or transfer to you?
You own all domain names you register or transfer through us. You are the owner (the Registrant) of all domain names that you register or transfer, not us. This means you control all aspects of the domain name including contact information, forwarding, name servers, etc. You can sell it, transfer it, renew it, let it expire... whatever you want.
FYI: the company which registers your domain name is known as the Registrar.
Do you run popup ads, banner ads or do anything "unusual" in conjunction with my domain name?
No, absolutely not! Not even when you use our domain forwarding service, we don't insert ads... in fact we don't do anything that in any way is different from providing a standard, straight forward domain registration service. No gimicks of any kind!
How long does it take before my domain name is "active"?
Although we register your domain name in "real time", it takes about 72 hours before it becomes active everywhere on the internet because of "internet propagation time". This is the same regardless of who you register your domain name with.
Do I need a web site to register a domain name?
No, you don't need a website to register a domain name. You can "park" your new domain name with us, and we'll automatically provide you with a free starter web page at your domain name. If you do create another full web site, just use your online account control panel to direct visitors to it.
Do I have to host my web site with you?
Although we have great hosting plans, you can host your web site on the server of any hosting company. If you don't have a web site or hosting company yet, you can easily add them at a later time using the Manage My Account online domain control panel. Contact your hosting company if you don't remember the names of its domain servers (two are required). You'll enter these names using the "Set NameServers" function.
Can I pay by check or money order?
Yes, payment can be made by check or money order. Here's the details.
How can I use a domain name with the free web site that I have?
Frequently the ISP you use to access the internet provides you with a free web site, or perhaps you're making use of one of the many free web site providers. If so, your free web site probably has a long or hard to remember name/address like http://www.yourispname.com/sites/~yourusername.
To make it easier for visitors to reach your web site, you can register a domain name and use our Domain Name Forwarding Service (its free) to bring visitors directly to your web site. If you're interested, here are more complete details about Domain Forwarding.
How can I avoid the high renewal fees my current registrar charges?
You can avoid the high renewal fees of your current domain names by transferring your existing domain to us now. You keep your website on the server where it is currently hosted; and you won't lose any fees already paid because we add a full year to the existing expiration date of all transferred domains. Because your existing registrar must approve the transfer, you must initiate the transfer at least 10 business days before the expiration date. See #10 below. Also, here is detailed information and a step by step explanation of the transfer and renewal process.
How long does it take to transfer my domain name to you?
Short answer: it can be as little as 2-3 days, but it can take as long as 10 days. Be sure to read the following more detailed answer.
You can transfer your domain to us as long as it has been with your current registrar for more than 60 days and it has not yet expired -- actually the transfer request should be made at least 10 business days before the expiration date. If the transfer fails for any reason, we'll issue you a full refund.
To process a transfer request requires contacting the administrative contact of your domain name by email to get your confirmation/authorization. Be sure to respond promptly to each confirmation request, as some registrars require that they receive your confirming email within 2 or 3 days of their initial message to you.
If you don't remember the e-mail address of your Administrative Contact, or you no longer use it, here's how to obtain it or change it.
Therefore you MUST initiate the transfer/renewal at least 10 business days before the expiration date of the current registration period; and you MUST use the email address of your current Administrative contact in your transfer request. Here's a detailed explanation of the transfer process.
Won't I lose the time remaining on my current registration if I renew now, in advance of my expiration date?
No you won't. When you transfer a domain name to us you won't lose any time you've already paid for because we add a full year to the existing expiration date of all transferred domains -- for example, if your current expiration date is 3 months away, when you transfer your domain to us, your new expiration date will will be in 15 months
There are a couple of things that can prevent adding on the additional year. They are:
1. You must have registered the domain name with your current registrar more than 60 days ago. So don't transfer it during the first 60 days after registering it or you'll lose the extra year.
2. If you renewed the domain name with your current registrar within the last 45 days, they can revoke the renewal and you'd lose their year. You can ask them to give you a refund, but this is solely your responsibility. Best advice, don't transfer a domain name during the first 45 days after renewing it or you'll lose the extra year.
Does transferring my domain name to you effective anything about my web site hosting?
No, it doesn't. It will continue to be hosted by the same company which is currently hosting it.
In the 3rd step of the transfer request, you will be asked to enter the name server information associated with your website. Simply select "Keep the existing name servers" and that's all there is to it.
Can I transfer and renew for more than one year?
Yes you can. The transfer automatically includes a one year extention of the expiration date; however, when you enter your transfer order with us, you'll be provided the opportunity to add additional years to the expiration date of your domain name(s).
My domain name has expired, how can I transfer it to you and renew it?
Unfortunately you can't. Regulations do not allow a domain name that has expired to be transferred to another registrar. You have to renew it with the current registrar. Typically they will keep the domain name active for a 30-45 day grace period, during which you can renew with them.
Can someone else register my domain name after I register it with you?
No, it is impossible for someone else to register your domain name after you registered it with us. We, and other bona fide domain name registrars, verify domain name availability through shared registration systems. Basically, these is a universal database of unavailable domain names. These systems prevent a domain name that has been successfully registered through us from being registered through another domain name registration service-- even if someone tries virtually immediately after you've completed registering it.
Can I have more than one domain name for the same web site?
Yes, you can have more than one domain name for the same website. It's called "URL forwarding", "domain forwarding" or simply "name forwarding". It lets you use a domain name, even several domain names, to direct visitors to one website. When you register a domain name with us, we provide you the option of forwarding it to an existing website address. More information on Domain Forwarding.
How will I make changes to my domain name information?
We provide you with an online account control panel which you can access at any time. With your account control panel you can easily make changes to your domain name information such as addresses, name servers, email addresses, etc. Here is a detailed overview of the account control panel.
What is a domain name?
A domain name is an internet address by which people reach your website. When someone types your domain name into a web browser, your website's pages will be shown. Behind the scenes, the domain name is actually pointing to a physical location - a server- that holds your website files. We have comprehensive information about domain names online at Domain Name Basics
How do I create a domain name?
Here's what's involved in creating your domain name:
- You can register domain names that are a word, a name, a phrase... virtually any combination of characters
- Your domain name can be as short as 3 characters or as long as 63 characters - plus the .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz, .us or .ws extension
- Your domain name can not include any spaces and must only use letters, numbers and hyphens ( dashes "-" )
- Your domain name cannot begin or end with a hyphen (dash)
- Domain names are not case sensitive, so there is no reason to use capital letters. If in the registration process you see the domain name given in all capital letters, that is OK. The actual registration is made in all lower case letters.
- Your domain name must be unique. There can't be more than one website with the same address. We provide you a search tool to find out if a domain name is available.
- If the name you want is already in use, you may want to check for variations. For example, if you wanted "www.myname.com", variations of the spelling or word order may help you choose a new domain name. Check availability of "my-name.com" or "mynameonline.com" or "shopmyname.com". And don't forget to check the name with the other extensions like: "myname.NET", "myname.ORG, or myname.INFO", "myname.BIZ" or "myname.WS" Here are some more naming hints.
